Chat GPT bulldozed into this year, sending copywriters and brand specialists into a frenzy. After realising this powerful AI tool isn’t quite the “the robots are taking over” sci-fi scenario it initially appeared to be (and the media suggested it was), it was time to play with the platform. 

There’s no denying this is a powerful resource business owners should be using. I love using the tool to create word banks, reframe ideas, and simply have fun in a way I never have before.

However, as a copywriter and messaging expert, it’s my responsibility to identify and educate my audience on why Chat GPT doesn’t mean you can be hands-off with your messaging.

Because with the current version of the copywriting software, you’re never going to stand out, connect, or convert your clients, and here’s why:

You’re requesting prompts without a purpose

Aka there’s no strategy behind the copy you’re asking AI to craft for you.

“Write me the introduction to my Services Page copy” is never going to land with your ideal client because the copy won’t consider their pain points, motivations, buyer habits, personalities, and objections.

What you’ll get are a few lukewarm sentences talking about how great your services are (if you’re lucky).

You’re not structuring your website to convert

Chat GPT might give you a few sentences, but you need to understand where on your website to position these. And that comes from strategy (taking time to establish who your ideal client is & the journey they go on) and expertise (understanding how people use & interact with web pages).

You’re neglecting your brand personality

Chat GPT’s general responses (i.e. without well-developed prompts) are void of personality. Before using the tool, you need an understanding of your brand personality and how this shows up in your messaging.

What to do instead

Dedicate time to becoming a Chat GPT expert– learn how to effectively write prompts that produce client-focused results.

Hire a professional copywriter to edit, refine, and oversee your Chat GPT-crafted copy/help you in using & leveraging the tool to craft your brand messaging.

Heavily edit, refine, and rewrite your Chat GPT-produced copy yourself. Infuse your brand personality, study your past client’s buying journey, and include their pain points and desires.

Remember, Chat GPT is a business tool & technique to learn. It is not a complete solution for your copywriting & content marketing needs.
