Hi, Jasmine — website copywriter & marketer for service providers + coaches looking to book more dream clients via their website.

Why you’re not converting more people on your website: How to write a conversion-optimized website

It sucks, doesn’t it?

You’ve pressed publish on your beautiful new website only to check your inquiry box and it’s crickets 🦗🦗

“I thought investing in my website meant I’d be irresistible to my ideal client?”

Uh oh, if only that was the case.

Having a website and driving traffic to it isn’t what increases your revenue.

(A common and damaging misconception in the digital marketing space).

Because more traffic doesn’t equal more sales. But here’s what does ↙️

A conversion-optimized website.

“A who, what?”

I know, it doesn’t sound sexy. But trust me, it matters—matters a lot if you want your website to make money for you.

What is a conversion-optimized website?

A conversion-optimized website is a site that’s ready to take cold traffic through the process of connecting and converting.

Everything on this website is geared towards the ultimate goal: booking your services.

Why you need to have a conversion-optimized website

The short answer: because you want to make money from your website.

The longer answer: because your website is where people go to purchase. It’s what proves your legitimacy and solidifies the trust people have in you.

Plus, it’s a much bigger canvas that’s able to house your sales conversion.

Think of that cute new top you saw on Instagram recently, you bought it through the brand’s website, didn’t you?

But, when it comes to high-ticket investments, it’s not the case of seeing something advertised and hopping over to their checkout.

These are considered, emotional investments that require you to meet your ideal client where they’re at and provide what they need to get them over the line and book with you

Instead of listing your services and hoping the right person comes along 🤞, you need to write your website to convert.

(Content & copy are used interchangeably throughout this post. I’m referring to the words written on your website.)

Structure your copy to sell

Identify who you’re talking to

Be specific with your ideal client and their situation to weed out anyone who doesn’t meet this criteria.

If your messaging reads: “Make more money online”.

It’s time to switch this out for: “Add an extra $500 a month to your family’s income with my 30-minute-a-day streamline your sales framework, all done within your baby’s nap time.”

Prove you are invested in and are empathetic to their situation

Paint a picture of their current reality to prove that you deeply understand and sympathize with them. People don’t want to buy a solution from someone who they don’t trust really understands their problem.

Add a line to your website copy that reads: I’ve been there— juggling finances and family life as a new mama, constantly seeking all the answers. 50% of the time you’re on fire, motivated as hell to make more money for your growing family! But the other 50%? You’re head-in-hands lost in despair wondering if it’s even possible for you not to feel overwhelmed by the financial pressures of this new chapter. I promise you, mama, it is. It’s possible for you to feel empowered by your finances as you watch them grow. I know because I’ve done it, and I’ve coached thousands of women just like you on their journey to achieving financial ease and predictability.

Make booking with you easy

Streamline the sales process into 3-5 easy-to-follow steps. Any more than this risks overwhelm which will cause your ideal client to overlook this information.

Remember, confused leads don’t buy.

Highlight your difference

Share what makes you different from the business next door and how this benefits your future client—
Does it make their life easier? Will it change the results they see? Does it set them up for future success?

It’s not just about having a difference, it’s about utilizing this to be your ideal client’s go-to over your competitor.

Future pace

Futuring pacing is a copywriting technique where you show your ideal client what their future life looks like to motivate them to take action.

This could be a positive—“Imagine waking up without the weight of today’s expenses heavy on your shoulders” (my preferred way to market!)

Or it could be negative— “Not taking action now not only means damaging your financial future, but it also means risking your children’s.”

Answer questions and overcome objections before they present them

Questions are hurdles in your sales process. They take your ideal client out of the streamlined sales process you want and leave room for doubt and curiosity.

The way to overcome this is to anticipate these questions and objections before they come and write copy that solves them in your ideal client’s mind.

For example, your ideal client might be worried about making their investment back. To calm these worries and stop them from being a block to their buying, you can inform them of past clients who’ve made their money back (always be honest about these results) or share how you promise to work with them until they do.

Suddenly, this pressing concern isn’t holding them back anymore and they’re ready to press purchase.

A lot goes into writing a website optimized for conversion. The points shared in this post are a great place to start. Once implemented, you’ll start to see how your website becomes a stronger sales asset for your business, taking you out of the weeds of selling so that you can focus on serving and scaling your business. Aka, what you started your business for!
