You’ve started the wedding business of your dreams. You’re ready to start serving couples and celebrating their love stories. The only problem is that you need a marketing strategy that connects you with and sells your services to these couples. Marketing for wedding venues and vendors can feel like a huge mountain to climb. But I promise, it doesn’t have to be.
In this blog post, I’m sharing how to use social media to market your wedding venue or vendor business without the stress, overwhelm, and anxiety that can come with promoting yourself and your business.
Choose your marketing platforms
Short-form
A successful social media marketing strategy for wedding venues and vendors will have a combination of long-form and short-form content.
Choosing your platforms for these depends on your marketing goals, ideal client, and personal preference.
Below is an outline of the most popular short-form platforms for wedding venues and vendors, so you can assess the pros and cons of each and decide which social media platforms will be a part of your strategy.
Instagram for wedding venues & vendors
Instagram is a visually-driven social media platform, making it ideal for wedding businesses. You can showcase your wedding venue’s best features and share your awe-inspiring designs through static posts, stories, and reels.
Instagram has 4.95 billion active social media users (Backlinko), making it one of the most popular social media platforms. The app’s popularity is both a blessing and a curse for your wedding venue or vendor business! This means there are more potential clients to connect with. However, it also suggests competition is fierce and you might struggle to stand out and be seen (a good social media strategy will help you with this!)
Your future clients are likely using Instagram for wedding inspiration. They’ll be saving, sharing, and sending wedding-related content in preparation for their planning experience. If you’re producing scroll-stopping Instagram content, you have a good chance of getting in front of their eyes, allowing you to get them into your marketing funnel (this simply means having them take the next step and enter your world – moving them closer to the goal of booking with you).
TikTok for wedding venues & vendors
TikTok is still the app of the moment. It’s the place where trends start and grow, and it still has the best reach out of all the short-form platforms (although it’s not quite as powerful as it once was!) Because of its uber-powerful reach, TikTok is ideal for your top-of-funnel content (the first touch point potential clients will have with you).
Similar to Instagram, people are seeking inspiration and a sense of connection through TikTok’s visually-driven content.
However, while TikTok gets points for having great reach, it doesn’t facilitate relationship building in the same way that Instagram and LinkedIn do. These platforms emphasise direct messaging and community fostering. If you’re using TikTok for marketing your wedding venue or vendor business, I recommend using it with another platform, so you can continue nurturing your relationship with viewers.
LinkedIn for wedding venues & vendors
While you might not think of LinkedIn as a platform for marketing for wedding venues and vendor businesses, it definitely has a place on this list. Unlike Instagram and TikTok, LinkedIn is a text-focused platform with an emphasis on B2B connections. You might not find future brides and grooms saving content and swooning over your designs, but you will find potential referral partners.
Referral is such a strong way to build your business. Peep at Cupid Copy’s Referral Scheme. Having aligned industry connections means being top of mind when aligned opportunities come up.
LinkedIn’s business focus makes it ideal for virtual networking. Connecting with other businesses can result in direct sales or help you grow beneficial relationships. Plus, business is way more fun with like-minded people by your side!
I wouldn’t recommend LinkedIn as the main marketing focus of your wedding business’s social media strategy, but it’s worth being on to connect with people and give your content a wider reach.
At Cupid Copy, I use LinkedIn to repost my Instagram content and give it a second life.
Pinterest for wedding venues & vendors
While Pinterest is a search engine rather than a social media platform, it’s one of the best platforms for marketing for wedding venues and vendors.
Pinterest is a hub of inspiration and answers. Couples will pin wedding designs they like alongside value-based content they can benefit from during their planning experience.
A well-developed Pinterest strategy can transform your wedding venue or vendor business growth trajectory. It does this by driving traffic (people) to your wedding business website, where (if your website is primed for conversion), they’ll book with you and become clients.
The best part is that Pinterest for wedding businesses requires minimal effort! You can approach Pinterest as an inspiration board where you share existing photographs of your work, or you can use it as an SEO tool to share your wedding website content. I always recommend the latter as providing value is the best way to build trust, ensure memorability, and inspire click-throughs to your website. Plus, it helps you win some SEO points from Pinterest’s big sister, Google!
Sit down once a week (I always like to do it on a Monday) and schedule your pins for the next 7 days. Pinterest favours new content, so try to share your most recent blog posts, resources, or photographs.
Long-form
I recommend my clients have one long-form platform when marketing for wedding venues or vendors.
Long-from content fosters connection and trust through value sharing. However, the majority of social media platforms are short-form.
For your long-form content marketing, you can start a newsletter, blog, or podcast. All of these are great for reach and connection! However, I recommend sticking to one and doing it well rather than trying everything and spreading yourself too thin. (Except for podcasts and sharing episode notes on your blog).
While I won’t be exploring blogging, podcasting, or newsletters for marketing your wedding vendor or venue business in this blog post, you can explore the Cupid Copy blog for more guidance on these topics.
The only long-form content I put under the bracket of <social media marketing for wedding venues and vendors> is YouTube.
YouTube is the world’s most popular long-form video-sharing platform with 2.49 billion monthly users (Backlinko). It’s also an incredible place to build community. By sharing weekly or biweekly videos covering wedding tips, you can position yourself as an authority, share your expertise, and connect with potential clients.
The only caveat to YouTube is it’s not location-specific, meaning you will reach people not getting married in the areas you serve. To improve this, you can use location-specific tags and keywords.
How to choose the right platforms to market your wedding venue or vendor business
Now we’ve established the pros and cons of each social platform for marketing for wedding venues and vendors, it’s time to choose your perfect platform.
I recommend choosing one primary short-form social media platform (Instagram, TikTok, or LinkedIn) and one long-form platform (YouTube, blogging, podcasting, or a newsletter). Then, if you’d like to, you can pick a secondary platform, or reposting platform where you reupload or repurpose your content depending on your time and resources.
E.g.
Primary: Instagram & newsletter
Secondary: Pinterest & blogging
Create a wedding business marketing strategy
Once you’ve identified your platforms and what has priority in your wedding business marketing, you need to create a strategy to follow. ‘Strategy’ simply means ‘plan’, so you need a plan of action for your content creation and posting schedule.
To do this, you need to establish your posting capacity: how much can you realistically post per week? Remember, this includes content ideation, creation, and physically posting. And you need to consider the purpose of every post: is this post to grow, sell, or nurture?
An example of your wedding venue or vendor’s social media strategy might be:
Wedding business marketing strategy:
Monday: Newsletter & IG post to nurture
Tuesday: IG growth post
Wednesday: IG selling post to promote free resource
Thursday: IG growth post
Friday: IG selling post
This is a simple-to-follow wedding business marketing strategy that will pay off when you’re consistent and producing high-quality content.
How to create a wedding business marketing strategy
To develop your wedding business marketing strategy, consider the ultimate goal of your social presence, the platforms best suited to achieving these, and the frequency of your posting. Remember, consistency is your #1 priority, so be realistic!
Implement your marketing strategy for your wedding venue or vendor business
To successfully implement your marketing strategy for your wedding venue or vendor business, you need to create a time frame and schedule. Consider when you’ll think of ideas and create content.
At Cupid Copy, I always do this on a Monday.
Then, decide whether you’ll manually post your content or use a scheduling tool, such as Later or Planable.
Then, the toughest part: stick to it and hold yourself accountable. It can be tempting to hop strategies or abandon yours altogether if you’re not immediately seeing results. However, even the best strategy in the world requires time to work.
Give your strategy at least 6 months before making any changes. From this point, you’ll have a significant amount of data you can use to inform your strategy and tailor it to what’s working, what’s not, and what you want to experiment with.
Remember, social media strategy is fun! It’s about sharing your brand and message. Don’t let algorithms get you down. Control what you can and let go of what you can’t. Enjoy putting your business baby centre stage and connecting with people you admire or want to work with!
