Hi, Jasmine — website copywriter & marketer for service providers + coaches looking to book more dream clients via their website.

How I’d market my creative brand as a new small business

It’s finally the day when you let your creativity shine. Whether you’re going all-in on your business or starting a creative side hustle, you’re determined to make this a success.

I, for one, know you’re going to do amazing. And finally giving yourself a creative outlet is going to do wonders for you and the people you serve!

But, before you can serve these people, they need to know you exist. And they need to want to work with you. Which, for new brands, can be a little daunting.

Thankfully, you have your back-pocket copywriter, brand-lover, and marketer (me). From wedding business marketing to interior design firm brand copy, I know how to set creative brands up for success.

You can see some of my credentials here.

*Disclaimer* There are lots of ways to market a wedding business, interior design firm, or other creative brand. This blog post chronicles what *I* would do as a new small business and the areas I think will be most effective for my fellow creatives.

My biggest piece of advice for you is to stick to one path.

Spend any time in the digital space and you’ll quickly discover there are a lot of ways you can market your small business: social media, paid ads, Pinterest, SEO, and more. Plus, you’ll find conflicting opinions and different methods within these areas. It can be too easy to develop magpie syndrome and want to try it all.

Pick your path (1-2 things) and stick to it for 6 months minimum. If you’re not experiencing any growth after 6 months, reassess your path and if something else might be more beneficial.

How I’d market my wedding business/interior design firm/creative brand as a new small business

Set up 1 social media profile

Rather than hopping on all the platforms, I’d choose one.

Before deciding on my chosen platform, I’d assess where my dream clients like to spend their time.

Using this awareness of my dream clients and my personal preferences, I’d pick the platform that best aligns with both of these.

Create a basic website

I’m interested in building a brand and a business, not just a social media following.

A website shows legitimacy, inspires trust, and makes your job as a brand owner a lot easier

As I’d be on a budget starting my wedding business, interior design firm, or other creative brand, I’d opt for a stylish website template.

Depending on my platform choice, I’d either pick Pix & Hue for WordPress or Tonic for Showit.

You can get 15% off Tonic with the code CopycatStudios15*

Focus on my messaging (across every platform/touchpoint)

Once I’ve picked my website template, I’d focus on my messaging. I’d craft my benefits statement, develop a word bank, and plug-and-play phrases for my services.

Before finalising these and crafting my website copy, I’d spend time developing a brand voice that feels true to me and aligns with my intended audience.

Finally, I’d spend time developing my website copy to ensure it’s true to me, connects with my dream clients, and inspires action from my audience. To ensure my copy is reaching its full potential, I’d book a copy audit from a trusted copywriter.

Using their feedback, I’d revise my final draft ready to publish on my new website.

Start blogging

Blogging is a long game and something I’d focus on from day one.

I’d use market research on social media, Pinterest, and Google to see what my dream clients are researching and compile a list of keywords and topic ideas.

Before launching my website, I’d craft 5-10 blog posts to serve my audience and please Google.

I’d keep blogging 1-2 times a week and share these posts on social media and with my email list

Create a lead magnet

I’d create a lead magnet to show my audience I care about serving them and to start growing my email list.

Before creating my lead magnet, I’d spent time looking at competitor freebies and researching what would be the most useful resource for my audience.

Remember, if your audience isn’t interested in your lead magnet, you’re wasting your time creating it.

After creating my lead magnet, I would set up Flodesk to capture emails and send out my free resources.

You can get 50% off Flodesk here. I highly recommend it as an email marketing tool for creative brands!

Start emailing my audience once a week

Once I’ve captured my audience’s email addresses, I’d start an email newsletter to keep in contact with them, provide free value, and ensure my creative brand stays top of mind.

If I’m focused on wedding business marketing, this would look like wedding planning tips and aspirational portfolio insights to build trust and interest.

I’d develop an email strategy that was practical for my to-do list and of interest to my audience. I wouldn’t solely focus on what I’m up -to because new people in my audience won’t be interested in this – they want to know how I can serve them.

Repeat, repeat, repeat

Finally, I’d keep emailing, blogging, and posting every week

I’d check my analytics weekly to see how my efforts perform and adjust my marketing strategy from these insights. It’s no good posting and ghosting or praying you’ll see results from one piece of content.

Building a brand and marketing effectively requires consistency, which is why I’d create a posting schedule that aligns with my personal life and professional goals.

From here, I’d watch my creative small business fly! I’d keep putting in the work, outsourcing to experts, and using strategies I can depend on.
